Incredible Awesomeness!
The Bad: The packaging is weak because the discs keep sliding out.
With that out of the way this CD/DVD package is a miracle of great mixing and whatever post production fixes they did. I saw them twice on the '07-'08 tours and own bootlegs of them playing in various countries on this tour. This package sounds better than anything I ever saw live or heard in a bootleg format. They also play their set list better on this DVD package than they ever did from what I heard. It was recorded live in Buenos Aires over two days so the editors had some brilliant performances to choose from.
This piece of product is everything a TRUE Police fan would want them to sound like. They're not arrogant, ambitious and faux punk-rock-reggae guys hungry to make it anymore. They're mature, famous, top-notch musicians, playing excellent songs.
The overall sounds, guitar tones, bass, drum sounds and mixing is top of the food chain. The video coverage and shot...
They. Sound. Amazing.
As a fan of The Police and Sting's solo career, I couldn't pass this one up because I didn't get to see the tour. I broke out the CD's first and listened to them while driving around. Didn't know what to expect, but I quickly progressed from "Hey, they sound pretty good" to "Oh My God! They sound #$@@ing GREAT!" All of the classics sound awesome, and when they want to play the songs traditionally, they sound better than ever.
But what I liked the best was when they changed it up a bit. My favorite song in the package is "Voices Inside My Head/When The World Is Running Down." They start out with this light jazz/funk groove and the song sounds completely fresh and then they bust right into the normal arrangement of When The World...and it sounds as good you remember it, if not better.
I saw Bono a couple of times last go round and I think he's losing a step vocally, at least when he's not hiding in a studio. Sting, on the other hand, sounded perfect and his...
Great blu ray concert!
Let me first say that this review is for the blue-ray only. The package came with 2 cds that I have not listened to and probably never will. Anyway, the band's performance is first rate. They all played with enthusiasm and there were no slackers! There's big sound coming from such a little band. And that sound is fantastic! The Dolby TrueHD recording is flawless. The mix is just as good. I find most 5.1 live recordings to be unlistenable, usually because the producer thought it would be cool to actually put instruments behind you. This mix is perfect. The show comes at you CLEARLY from up front and the surrounds have just the right amount of ambient sound (audience and reflected music) to put you in the crowd. I'm really not a big Police fan, but they played and sounded so good that I enjoyed all the songs, even the ones I don't particularly care for (do do do, da da da, etc). Don't let the "compression conspiracy fanatics" scare you off. This is a LIVE show that sounds like a well...
