Eyewitness DVD: Butterfly and Moth



Nice series
Enjoyed it very much.This is part of a series that is most enjoyable. I will look for others in the series.

The video had some good information and we enjoyed it. However I wish it showed the butterflies more in their natural habitat. It seemed more like you were in a museum then watching things in nature. Maybe that was the point but we werent too impressed.

Carl Jung said humans have a trans-historical hatred of dirt, mice, and insects. So yes, most everyone thinks butterflies are pretty and that metamorphosis is amazing, but we are still talking about insects. There was much yuckiness here.
Luckily, the work focused on butterflies, rather than moths. Still, it noted that there are 10 times as many moths as there are butterflies. Moths may have been created 80 million years before the other group. Still again, they said no one trait separates all butterflies from all moths.
This work is typical of the series. It mixes biology with history. It has a great range of foreign language subtitles. The work is really 30 minutes on topic and just as long praising the overall series.
I learned fun stuff. Monarch butterflies move from central Mexico to the US and sometimes Europe. They mention the Chinese and silk, but I think they could have said much more. They explain how the monarch got its name. They speculate as to...
